Girls weekend!

October always seems to be mentioned when I’m trying to plan anything.  “You can’t get married that weekend”, “we hope you go into labor before we leave, and “don’t forget that I can’t do anything that weekend”.  It is all because of the infamous weekend for MEN only Deer Camp.  Memories of this miserable sounding male weekend for me, go as far back as to when I was 5 years old.  I can still remember my dad coming home Sunday, smelling like stale bonfire, and booze.  As I ran to hug and kiss him I found myself being tortured by his unshaven scratchy beard.  The month after Garrie and I got married he was quickly inducted into this ritual, and who knows what goes on, but honestly who cares?

The part I do care about though, is that it gives us wives and children an excuse to get together and do whatever we want. (Unfortunately, poor Cooper will be stuck with us girls until he turns 21).  We have done so many various things while the "guys" are gone.  We have done craft projects, we treat ourselves to fancy dinners, we always seem to drink a lot, and we have even ventured out for long-weekend road trips.  This year was a little more relaxed, but none the less perfect.

We started our weekend by going to Ikea.  No major purchases this time, mainly the items that I bought was miscellaneous junk, which I would throw in the cart to keep Cooper occupied.  I caught on some lost sleep (thanks to my wonderful mom who allowed Cooper to sleep in her room.), I relaxed a lot (barley got out of my Pajamas), we played outside, we watched movies, ate great food, concocted new drinks, we chatted a little, and gossiped a lot.  Overall it was another successful year spending time with the girls! Here are some of the fun things we did.
Cooper & Bella hanging on Sunday afternoon
Getting use of the grill one more time before winter.

Potato Soup

5 cups of water
10 medium peeled Idaho potatoes-Cubed into small pieces
2 onions-chopped
4-5 stalks of celery
2 large or 10 baby carrots-chopped
3 Tlb. fresh snipped parsley (I used more)
1 stick of butter
1 (12 oz) can of evaporated milk
1 can cream of celery soup
Salt and Pepper

Combine: Water, potatoes, onions, carrots, celery, and parsley in large pot. Cover and cook for 30 minutes.  Add butter, soup, and evaporated milk.  Heat on low (or it will burn).  Add salt and pepper to taste.  Serve hot.  * I added chunks of ham to mine, to make it a complete meal.

Caramel Apple Pie Martini

Cinnamon Graham Crackers-Crushed finely.
Ice cream topping caramel.
1 Apple (your choice of kind).
2 cups Vanilla Flavored Vodka.
2 Tlb. ButterSchanpps.
2 Tlb. Apple flavored Schnapps.
Cream Soda
Pour caramal topping down insides of glass and chill.
Take chilled glass and use small amount of water to wet rim of glass.
Cover rim with graham crackers.
Shake all liquors in shaker with ice.
Pour into Martini glass and add apple as garnish
Enjoy!
